1967: Sony DVC-2400 Vidicon Portapack Camera!
.
This camera was the mate
to the historically famous DV-2400 Skip Field Record Only Portapack VTR,
also known as the VIDEO ROVER. [Click here and
scroll down a couple of entries to see the DV-2400]. Introduced in
1967, this outfit complimented the CV-2000 line of deck VTRs which were
already available to the public. The camera uses a 2/3 inch vidicon and
1-1/2 inch CRT viewfinder. The lens is a f 1.2, 12-1/2 mm to 50 mm (4:1)
zoom type. Operation was as simple as point, frame and focus, and pull
the trigger. You were recording! This out fit was the lightest of all of
Sony's reel to reel video portapacks. The camera and the VTR, with tape
and battery, weighed just over twenty pounds. The CMA-1, camera adapter,
allowed this portapack camera to be used with the AC powered deck type
VTRs of both the AV and CV series. This camera was connected to the VTR
by means of a short 10 pin EIAJ cable (not shown). Notice that the right
side of the camera, visible in the second photo, is all scratched up. That
was the only side the camera could be laid down upon when it was not being
carried!
Update! 02.05.15:
Thanks go out to Jennifer
for cleaning out her basement and turning up this sweet item. Up to now,
LabGuy has purchased five or six DV-2400 cameras, as many VTRs and other
associated accessories in an attempt to restore a complete outfit as it
would have appeared had it been purchased in 1967. Finally, this camera
has the separate microphone and microphone mount still on it. That took
long enough to find. These microphones must have been primary targets for
pilferers! Or perhaps they are like the lens cap on my Olympus C3030 digital
camera ~ easily lost! This means that there is only one DV-2400 related
item left on LabGuy's "DESPERATELY NEEDED" list. That would be the
leather satchel that the DV-2400 portapack VTR goes in. Anybody got one?
